A Case of Wanderlust by Alberta Ferretti Resort 2014

Alberta Ferretti came down with a case of wanderlust this season, conjuring up a chic nomad who adds eclectic pieces to her wardrobe acquired throughout her travels. Such notions are particularly prevalent during the Resort collections, but Ferretti carried it off by mixing up tribal motifs and animal prints with classic safari references. The designer whipstitched panels of tiger-print ponyhair, leather, and nubby bouclé into a shift dress that was casually elegant. At the other end of the spectrum, distressed leather biker jackets and vests that looked like they'd already been around the world and back added a vintage feel to the lineup. Well-traveled was Ferretti’s muse, and well-dressed, too.

Perfect-for-packing shifts were many and came with jeweled embellishments or graphic, zebra-print accents. A cropped pant paired with an A-line tunic in matching Mykonos-blue looked like an ideal companion for cruising. There was a wear-anywhere silk shirtdress, a smart little black-and-white skirt suit for lunching, and a series of dresses from the designer’s bridal collection done in cool, oceanic colors for evening. Ferretti’s signature femininity showed up in moments of sheerness (on blouses) and soft pleating (on dresses, short and long). Overall, the collection had what any successful trip might include: a splash of excitement, a hint of romance, and—maybe the biggest luxury of all real ease.

'Grey Gardens' Little Edie was Giambattista Valli's muse for Resort. "I love her eccentricity, her extreme point of view," he said by phone from Paris, where he's preparing his Couture show.'
